Woman representing inside-out skin aging

Science

Eat well. Move. Feed the tissue that holds you together.

Connective tissue ages as one.

Joints, cartilage, skin, and the gel between your cells are the same family of tissue. Most people hear “collagen” and stop there — as if one powder were the whole recipe. It is like baking. Collagen is flour. You cannot bake the cake with flour alone.

In the tissue, collagen is the architecture. Hyaluronic acid is the water and the slip. Chondroitin is the bounce. Most supplements pick one and hope. This patented formula keeps them together, at a molecular weight your body can use.

Collagen type II

The most abundant protein in joint cartilage and the dermis. It is the structural scaffolding that keeps skin firm and joints fluid. BioCell’s patented hydrolysis targets 1.5–2.5 kDa — versus 200–300 kDa for undenatured collagen.

Hyaluronic acid

The molecule that hydrates skin, lubricates joints, and holds cells in a gel-like matrix. Most oral HA never arrives. This one is measured in the blood — up to sixty-fold at steady state.

Chondroitin sulfate

A naturally occurring element of cartilage that gives it shock-absorbing bounce — the difference between a joint that cushions and a joint that grinds.

Why this matrix

It mirrors the joint it is meant to feed.

Figure 1. Comparison of composition of Liquid BioCell and human articular cartilage.
Left is the active matrix. Right is whole articular cartilage — mostly water and cells.

These pies might not look the same. They are remarkably similar. The right pie is the joint still wet — about 70 to 80 percent water, plus the cells. The left pie is not the bottle. It is the patented matrix, measured dry.

Take the water out of the joint, and the cells. What remains is type II collagen and proteoglycans — hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, keratan sulfate — in about a 60 / 40 split. The matrix is 55% type II collagen and 45% that same family. Same families. Same job.

Proteoglycans lock into the type II collagen network. That is what gives cartilage its resistance to compression. Those structural pieces — and the integrity of the matrix — decline with age and wear.

The bottle is more than superfoods. Researchers found a specific section of chicken sternal cartilage that happens to mirror human joint tissue. Not the whole bird. Not even the whole sternum. A needle in a haystack. Winning the lottery.

Then came decades of work to make that molecule absorbable. Adult articular cartilage has almost no blood supply. It is fed by synovial fluid — a fine mesh, not a pipeline. Native collagen is too large to pass through that mesh, and collagen alone is only one piece of the matrix. You cannot put a basketball through a fishing net. So the work was like a boat in a garage with a door too small — take the boat apart, move it through the door, put it back together on the other side. The liquid supplies those same pieces, in a ratio the joint already uses, hydrolyzed small enough to absorb.

Cartilage with the water out

Same families as the matrix. About 60% type II collagen. Of the rest, chondroitin sulfate is the large slice; hyaluronic acid is the small one.

  • Keratan sulfate and other glycoproteins 13%
  • Hyaluronic acid 5%

Awards & manufacturing

We do not make the formula. We recommend it.

The liquid is built on Collagen/HA Matrix® Technology — a naturally occurring matrix of hydrolyzed type II collagen, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate, processed to a molecular weight the body can use. Seven U.S. and international patents sit on that work. Liquid BioCell won the 2015 NutraIngredients Readers’ Choice Award. Liquid BioCell® Pure is NSF Certified for Sport®.

The ingredient is produced in the United States and Germany. It is self-affirmed GRAS, non-GMO, and gluten-free.

Shaklee now holds the exclusive license. We are independent consultants. The clinicals live on the Clinicals page. The bottles live on Formulas.

GRAS

Generally Recognized As Safe

GRAS is the U.S. safety standard for ingredients used in food. It means qualified experts have concluded the ingredient is safe for its intended use. The BioCell matrix is self-affirmed GRAS — the manufacturer documented that expert review. It is not an FDA approval of the product, and it is not a disease claim. It is a safety designation for the ingredient itself.

NSF Certified for Sport®

What is on the label is in the bottle

NSF is an independent lab, not the brand. Certified for Sport® means the product is tested so the contents match the label, screened for contaminants, and checked against hundreds of substances banned by major athletic organizations. USADA recognizes the program. Liquid BioCell® Pure carries that mark — the same patented matrix, without the superfood blend. It is why coaches and athletes can use it without guessing what is in the bottle.

Clinicians, in their own words — and on film

Joint discomfort is a result of progressive degeneration of connective tissue, where both collagen and hyaluronic acid are essential. Unlike anything else, Liquid BioCell allows you to replenish these substances orally in a patented, highly absorbable form, and it has been clinically shown to work. Liquid BioCell reduces joint discomfort, increases the range of motion and restores mobility. It’s the most remarkable nutraceutical for joint support and healthy aging that has ever been introduced to the market.

Louis P. Brady, M.D.Board-certified orthopedic surgeon

Liquid BioCell is clinically shown to increase hyaluronic acid in the body by 6000%. This translates to a decrease in wrinkles from the inside out. Liquid BioCell helps bring tone, elasticity, and moisture back to the skin, and even goes an important step further — it helps reduce the enzyme that can make your skin age.

Jon M. Grazer, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S.Board-certified plastic surgeon, UC Irvine

The ingredients in this dietary supplement are substantiated by solid scientific research and offer multi-layered benefits for healthy aging. The Liquid BioCell Life formulation is constructed not only with the health benefits of this unique collagen matrix, but also helps reduce oxidative stress that accelerates the aging process.

Joosang Park, Ph.D.Cancer biology, Stanford; fellow, Harvard Medical Center

Researches and recommends the most well-documented, clinically proven natural alternatives available today — and calls Liquid BioCell a revolutionary nutraceutical with no equal in the marketplace.

Cynthia Champion-Olson, N.D.Board-certified traditional naturopath and clinical nutritionist

Has concentrated her practice since 1999 on the causes, treatment, and prevention of obesity, with national awards in weight management and wellness.

From the orthopedic chair

Three things Brady asked you to remember.

Louis P. Brady, M.D., the orthopedic surgeon on the original doctors page, closed with three reasons he called Liquid BioCell Life unlike anything else he had seen — and why he believed it would be many years, if ever, before it could be duplicated.

  1. 01

The source of the collagen closely resembles our own connective tissue, so the body can recognize it.

  2. 02

The molecule is small enough to start absorbing in the mucous membrane of the mouth — 1.5–2 kDa versus 200–300 kDa for undenatured collagen.

  3. 03

The genius of Liquid BioCell Life is the trio: patented Liquid BioCell, trans-resveratrol, and 13 antioxidant superfruits.

After growth plates close, joints are no longer fed by blood. They depend on the amount and quality of synovial fluid — hyaluronic acid secreted into the joint. As HA and collagen decline, skin wrinkles and joints degrade on the same clock. Liquid BioCell is clinically shown to raise HA; Brady believed it also improves the quality of that fluid. “Bone on bone,” he wrote, is often a misnomer — even in the worst hips and knees he operated on, twenty to forty percent of fairly normal cartilage remained. That is the tissue he believed this matrix can support.
