What is the difference between BioCell Collagen and other collagen supplements?

Type II plus HA plus chondroitin, 1.5–2.5 kDa, 1–2 g clinical doses, hyaluronidase inhibition — not another type I powder at 10 grams.

Unlike other collagen supplements, Liquid BioCell’s composition in type II collagen and proteoglycans mirrors human articular cartilage. Unlike other HA supplements, its patented low-weight molecules have been shown to increase steady-state hyaluronic acid in the bloodstream as much as 6,000%. Unlike other collagens, it deactivates hyaluronidase, the enzyme that catalyzes HA degradation.

Collagens are not created equal. BioCell Collagen is the hydrolyzed collagen that also provides substantial glycosaminoglycans — HA and chondroitin sulfate — in bioavailable forms. Both collagen and GAGs are required for skin dermis and cartilage.

Versus undenatured (unhydrolyzed) type II: BioCell is hydrolyzed type II with HA and chondroitin, 1.5–2.5 kDa versus 200–300 kDa, efficient absorption, about a 60-fold HA increase in humans, chondrocyte stimulation (undenatured did not stimulate type II biosynthesis in the Oesser work), hyaluronidase inhibition, and human data in both joint and skin. Native collagen may give type II only, without GAG support or proven oral HA bioavailability.

Versus other hydrolyzed collagens (usually type I): BioCell is type II with GAGs; clinical doses are 1 g for skin and 2 g for joint, versus about 10 g for many type I hydrolysates; average molecular weight about 1.5 kDa versus about 3.5 kDa; hyaluronidase inhibition is a BioCell signature.

Versus eggshell membrane or fish-derived collagen: those are primarily type I, with much lower collagen, chondroitin, and HA content (eggshell membrane roughly 12–18% collagen, 0.2–0.5% chondroitin, 0.5–1.0% HA versus BioCell’s >60% / >20% / >10%). A clinical trial on eggshell membrane showed limited effect on joint discomfort compared with BioCell’s full-range joint and skin data.
